Due to the national health emergency that Mexico is now facing, due to COVID-19, on April 17, 2020, the Mexican Industrial Property Institute (IMPI) suspended and interrupted its services and legal terms and deadlines, to return on April 30. Subsequently, on April 28, 2020, through a publication in the official Gazette, its possible opening date was extended to May 30.
In an effort to facilitate and activate procedures as much as possible, as of May 13, the IMPI has set up an “Electronic Trademark Office” to accept online writs that were not previously accepted through this system, allowing filing of license and assignment recordals, oppositions, renewals, geographical indications and denominations of origin (amongst other procedures). While deadlines remain suspended until May 30, these online services we help move forward Examination procedures.
PPM will start working with this new online service, hoping it will be efficient and provides value to our clients.
We are at your service should you have any questions.
